An Introduction To Management Studies

A degree in management studies now seems essential for every job opportunity in any sector. According to the age old definition of management, it is an act which successfully brings different people together to get some work done.

It consist of many functional areas which are the pillars of strength for any business – IT related or otherwise.

These pillars are – planning, organizing, staffing, controlling, directing, reporting and budgeting. One of the most important functions of management is selecting or recruiting the best employees from the lot. And one essential prerequisite for such recruitment always would be a degree in management studies.

Management studies just like any other academic field of study is multi disciplinary as it heavily depends on economics, sociology, psychology, law, IT etc. Therefore a degree in management studies can be earned along with a degree in any other related field of study. To be eligible for a degree in management studies one has to successfully complete the GMAT and get a good score. This is essential even for international students.

There are many types of education opportunities available in management studies such as an Associate’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, doctoral and post doctoral academic opportunities. Student’s can also opt for management concentration, major and minor programs in management studies as well.

To get a Master’s degree in management, especially the degree of Master of Business Administration one needs to have atleast a four years undergraduate degree. Most countries follow a three year degree program. This also means if you have a degree in any professional course such as medicine or engineering, you can still apply for your MBA degree.

There are many types of Master of Business Administration degree that one can choose from. For example, you can go for a full time MBA, part time MBA or still an Executive MBA program. Part time MBA degree can be earned by attending classes during evening time or on weekends. You can complete your part time MBA degree in four to five years.

A MBA degree can also be earned through a two years program or simply a one year MBA program. Sometimes you can even enroll for a MBA degree with a related field of study such as economy, tourism etc. Another option would be to go for a Juris Doctor MBA program which combines management and law together for its students.
