Mass Communication and Mass Media is a very wide field with many options in it. Primarily, this is a field –which, as the name suggests- deals with the masses, and hence, there is a need for extrovert people in this area, so that they can connect to the masses well, and can produce meaningful entertainment, information, as well as education for them.

Usually, those who study Mass Communication at the Bachelors level go through an intense program that teaches them the basics of Radio, Television, Cyber Media, Marketing and Public Relations, Photography, Research, Film-making, Scriptwriting, News development, Advertising and related concepts. This means that students get acquainted with all the things that come under the broad umbrella of the term ‘Mass Communication’.

After this, the job opportunities depend on what a person is interested in, or what a person wants to specialise in, or what a person is good at. For instance, those who are interested in scriptwriting are usually those people who have knack of writing, and have the understanding of concepts such as creation of film plots with good characters.

Then there are those people who love to keep a watch on social trends and how they interplay with economic concepts and things such as consumerism. Thus, such people enter the world of Marketing, or Advertising. Related fields to advertising are Market Research studies where consumer and market trends are observed, and Public Relations, where customer, press as well as client relations are handled.

The field of television again looks for people who can do scriptwriting, or acting. There are also opportunities to become camera persons, editors, and directors, set designers, art directors, costume makers and so on. Similarly, the medium of radio too needs Radio Jockeys, technical radio experts, radio program editors, sound editors, music specialists, voiceover artists etc.

Hence, the overall choice depends on the person himself. It is for the person to decide what sub-field he/she would like to take once he/she has entered the field of Mass Communication. These days, this industry is expanding so fast that there is a need for multitalented people.

Hence, people who are good at scriptwriting get an edge when they can give their story a tangible form with good direction, proper training of actors, good sets and locations and so on. It is best to train yourself in multiple things in for better job prospects.
