GRE – Subject Test
The GRE Subject test is most often required for getting admission to post graduate courses or PhD program. GRE Subject test are taken by those undergraduates wishing to enroll into graduate programmes in the following areas: Psychology, Physics, Mathematics, English literature, Computer science, chemistry, biology and biochemistry. The test score in GRE Subject test can supplement your undergraduate records and can have a positive effect on your admission. Subject based test is usually paper based and is administered three times a year in the months of April, October and November.
Registration for GRE Subject Test can be done in the following ways: Online or mail. For online registration you will be required to create a new account with ETS known as My GRE Account. Once account is created, you can pay using credit or debit card. In case of mail registration, you will need to download the registration form, fill it and send it along with your payment to the test office. Payment here will be accepted by credit card, money order or cheque. UNESCO coupons and Western Union Money transfer services are also accepted.
GRE Subject Test fee in US and nearby territories including Puerto Rico is $140 and for all other locations, $160. Late registration fee is $25; rescheduling or changing test center venue charge is $50 and score reinstatement fee is $30. There is also a fee reduction program for those (US citizens only) in financial difficulty on first come, first serve basis. If you are eligible and get accepted, you will be required to pay $80 for the General Test and $70 for the Subject Test.On the day of the test, you will be required to bring your valid ID proof, admission ticket, HB pencils and a good eraser. The type of ID proof you bring depends upon where you are taking the test. If in your own country of citizenship and if in a different country, it will vary.
The GRE Subject test for each subject area consists of approximately above 50 multiple choice questions taken from your undergraduate courses. In case test is rescheduled due to reasons beyond your control (weather problems etc) and your test gets cancelled, you can ask for refund or attempt another test for free. Refund including your travel expenses in US dollars will be given to you once you submit a request for refund.
