MCAT stands for Medical College Admission Test. This exam is for all those aspiring students who wish to study in medical colleges in United States and Canada. This exam is different from other competitive exams as it tests your knowledge and skills in specific fields of knowledge like physics and biology.

AAMC or Association of American Medical College (www.aamc.org) conducts this exam every year for the students seeking admission in medical colleges. It is very important that you score high in this exam as a good score would ensure you of a seat in the medical college of your choice. Registration for MCAT:

It is very important that you register for the MCAT exam at least 120 prior to the examination. It is also important that you decide about the test centre and fill your application form along with all other important documents for the registration. You would be intimated about the date and time of the examination. The MCAT exam is conducted three times in a year but you can appear only once for the exam.

This exam is conducted both in the morning and evening hours. The exam lasts for about six hours. If a student is dissatisfied with his performance in the exam then he can reappear for the exam the following year but he need not gets registered again. There is also a provision of online registration for the exam. You can also submit the fees online.

The registration fee for the MCAT exam is $225.You would be intimated about everything related to the exam via e-mail only. A student also has an option of deciding about the time and centre for the exam. He can choose either the morning or evening time. A student can cancel or reschedule his examination at any time before the conduct of the exam. He would be charged for changing his preference.

Format and Scoring of MCAT Exam:

As discussed above it is very important to score high in this exam and for that it is important that a student understands the exam format. The MCAT exam has been divided into four sections namely Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, Writing Sample and Biological Sciences. Your knowledge in physics and physics in relation to chemistry is assessed in the Physical Sciences section.

In the second section of Verbal Reasoning your understanding of a prose text is assessed. Writing Sample section deals with your overall writing skills. The last section of Biological Sciences assesses your knowledge in biology and biology related chemistry.

The Writing Sample section is assessed on the score range of J-T and where J is the lowest and T is the highest score.
