Performing Better in Examinations

The examination itself causes lots of nervousness. You are very likely to get more disoriented when you have the exam paper in front of you. Often, the things that you are asked seem unfamiliar, and you think that you have just not prepared enough.We often start to answer the questions which are difficult first.

This takes up most of our time. We try and think as hard as we can, and write as much as we know on the subject so that the answer is somewhere there. This can be so exhausting that you have very little time left to attempt the other questions, most of which you can answer better.

You are pressed for time, and cannot do justice to the questions. Your paper has just slipped out of your hands.

When you first see your question paper, look at the number of questions you have to answer, and divide your time accordingly. Start by answering what you are sure of. You will do better at them, and be able to write these answers without any pressure. This will also give you more confidence to answer the questions that follow. Examinations which start well have a tendency to do well overall.

If the time allotted for a particular question is over, leave a little place so you can come back to it, and move on to the next answer. This will ensure that you are able to attempt all the questions successfully. You are also managing your time in a more structured fashion. Once you have finished the questions, you will have time to get back to those answers you have not completed, and also have time to check the answers for mistakes.

It is always better to check for mistakes as soon as you have finished answering the question. Since the information is all fresh in your head, you are more likely to think in a structured way and the flow of thought will also be better. This will cause less confusion and you will be able to find mistakes accurately. Go ahead and come out with flying colours!
