Tips To Pass The IELTS Exam

The IELTS exam checks the competence of a student in listening, writing, reading and speaking. The IELTS has two broad formats.

If you are interested in higher education, then you need to appear for the Academic Module.

The General Training Module, on the other hand, is for people who are looking to immigrate or are going to a country for some work. The tips that are given here is helpful for both the modules.

Before you appear for these important tests, it is advisable that you practice a lot. Only then you can be more confident in appearing for these exams. Read a lot of newspapers and magazines to brush up your reading skills.

Try to read the articles aloud in a room so that your speaking skills also get brushed up. It might happen that you fail the test when you are appearing for the first time. But it does not imply your incompetence in any manner.

The main reason behind the failure is not following the instructions properly. A question might require a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer; don’t give out a ‘true’ or ‘false’.

Like any other university exams, time is a great factor in IELTS too. Many examinees find it impossible to finish all the four modules within the stipulated time. You should learn the importance of time management.

The practice tests are very important as it teaches you to read, write and listen faster but effectively. But the main objective should be to give correct answers to each and every question.

In the speaking section you need to converse en face with an Examiner. You need to speak to the person and not to the equipment which records your voice. Have your thoughts sorted out and speak fluently and correctly.

Don’t speak in a rushed manner. The tone of your speech should be neutral and at normal speed. The main idea of this session is not to find out about your general knowledge but to assess your communication abilities.

Always come to the testing center well prepared. If you are under prepared then you are going to be very nervous and jittery. But, on the other hand, if you are well prepared you can focus on the questions only and look to give the best possible answers. Always think positively and it will reflect in your performance.
