University of Michigan At Ann Arbor

The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor is the oldest university in the state of Michigan and was established as early as 1817. This public university is highly ranked and stands nineteenth among the worldwide universities and is ranked third among the national universities for its high quality graduate programs. The university supports a multi-cultural environment and most of its departments are held in high esteem throughout United States and all around the world.

Colleges/Schools: The University offers more than 200 programs and comprises of 20 colleges/schools. They are as follows: Business, Architecture and urban planning, Dentistry, Art and Design, Education, School of Information, Engineering, Rackham School of Graduate Studies, Law, Kinesiology, Medicine, Nursing, Literature, Science and The Arts, Natural Resources and Environment, Officer Education Programs, Public Policy, Pharmacy, Social Work, Public Health. The University provides high quality education at all levels namely the under-graduate, graduate and post graduate levels and many inter-disciplinary studies.

Research: The University conducts extensive research in the field of medicine and engineering and receives huge grants from federal, state and private sources to pursue research in various fields. The university also houses a technology transfer office which coordinates lab research with industrial needs. The university is also well-known for its research in the field of computer networking and contributes extensively to the field of information theory.

In the medical side, the university has made major contributions like EKG, polio vaccine etc. Social sciences research and other interdisciplinary research are also popular in this university apart from its studies related to population and political analysis. Research related to physics and manufacturing are also on-going in the University.

General Information: The University is also very well known for its athletic activities and its football, basketball and ice hockey teams are highly competing teams. The University has nineteen separate independent libraries and has a huge array of books catering to all departments. There are highly notable alumni members from this University.

Gerald Ford, the late American President was an alumni of this university. Other such notable and famous personalities are Larry Page, the co-founder of Google,  Dr.J.Robert Beyster, founder of SAIC, Sanjay Gupta(Neuroscientist), Michael Phelps(Olympic gold medalist Swimmer) and many more.
