Nobody is born a chef but one can be trained to become one. There are many culinary institutes out there who have specialized courses for training chef aspirants. One very distinguished institute is the CIA or Culinary Institute of America.
The college has its main campus at Hyde Park in New York with branches in St. Helena, California and San Antonio, Texas. Among many other things that the college offers on its plate is the accredited associate and bachelor’s degree. The quality education it imparts is thanks to the teaching staff comprising of American Culinary Federation certified Master Chefs.
Bachelor of Professional Studies and Associate of Occupational Studies degrees in either the culinary arts or baking and pastry arts is offered by the college. They also have short programs for experienced professionals. The basic requirement for admission is an industry experience of at least 6 months. One also has to undergo 18 week industrial training at a CIA approved site.
Pro chef is a very famous program offered by it in a tie-up with the ACF. There are three levels in this program, Pro-Chef I, Pro-Chef II and Pro-Chef III, and it also gets you a ACF certification after passing each level, namely, Certified Culinarian, Certified Chef de Cuisine and Certified Executive Chef. The CIA also operates its own restaurants for training its students in an operational scenario.
